2018 National Conference on Education
This year’s National Conference on Education was held in Nashville, Tenn. on February 15 – 17. The theme for the conference was “Education in the Digital Age.” The following provides some images, award recipients and presenters from the conference:
2017 AASA Urban Superintendents Academy Graduates:
The Urban Superintendents Academy is a cross-institutional partnership that offers a dynamic approach to urban superintendents preparation and certification. Through the American Association of School Superintendents (AASA), has launched distinct partnerships with Howard University and the University of Southern California to bolster the effectiveness of school district leadership in our nation’s urban areas.
Urban Superintendents Academy Alumni Gathering & Educational Session
At this session, participants heard from alumni of the Urban Superintendents Academy regarding their leadership transitions from academy participants to leading administrators in our nation’s urban schools. The presider for the session was Dr. Bernadine Futrell, director of Leadership Services at AASA. The presenters were: Dr. Marion Smith, Jr. regional director for K-12 Learning, Leadership & Student Success at Puget Sound Educational Service District; Traci Davis, superintendent at Washoe County School District and Gwendolyn Page Shannon, superintendent at Southampton County Public Schools.
The AASA Distinguished Service Awards
AASA honors exceptional educational leaders as well as the immediate past president of the association with the Distinguished Service Award. These educational leaders are recognized by AASA for bringing honor to themselves, their colleagues and their profession; rendering exemplary service to their state or national professional association; and contributing to the education field through writing, public advocacy or other activities.
The AASA Women in School Leadership Award
AASA recognizes female educators whose creativity, talent and vision are exemplary.

AASA promotes “I love Public Education Rally” to help ensure that U.S. students gain access to a high-quality public education.
2018 National Superintendents of the Year Winners
AASA recognizes our nation’s outstanding superintendents for their contributions to public education.
Dr. Ronald Holmes is the author of 16 books and publisher of “The Holmes Education Post,” an education focused Internet newspaper. These books include How to Eradicate Hazing; How to Eradicate Cyber Bullying; How to Eradicate Schoolyard Bullying; and How to Eradicate Workplace Bullying. These books serve as a reference guide to an online anti-bullying program that provides training for all students, parents, employees, and managers. These books are also equipped with a 24 hour Web Based Reporting, Tracking, Training and Documentation System that allow individuals to report bullying incidents anonymously from the home, school, work and community. Holmes is a former teacher, school administrator, test developer and district superintendent.
