Finding a needle in a hay stack can be as challenging as finding a research topic in education. In fact, when doing extensive research for a thesis or dissertation, it is essential to explore the literature of a particular field including talking with experts about the subject matter. While the goal is to contribute or add exiting knowledge to the field, the critical question to be asked for this feature is: What are some suggested research topics in education? To answer this question, The Holmes Education Post (THEP) provides its top five research topics in education for the first quarter of 2014 (January – April). The following topics were identified based on current issues in education and continuous reviews or comments from readers of THEP: (1) drug testing of high school student athletes; (2) common core state standards; (3) security cameras in schools; (4) appreciative advising and (5) student performance through vertical alignment.

On the issue of drug testing of high school student athletes, for example, the article discusses the issue of whether performance enhancing drugs improve sports by giving athletes a competitive edge or damage the game and the health and safety of athletes. On the subject of appreciative advising, the article discusses an alternative solution for educational institutions to increase student retention and success rates. On the subject of vertical alignment, the article notes that vertical alignment is one of the best strategies to improve student achievement in the schools. Please read these articles entirely and other research topics in education on the The Holmes Education Post and  post your comments on the website.
