THEP and ETS release timely Online National Anti-Hazing Curriculum
The Holmes Education Post and Einestine Technology Services release timely Online National Anti-Hazing Curriculum for Educational Institutions
Hazing is prevalent in the university environment despite the adoption of anti-hazing laws in 44 states. In a national study on student hazing, 55 percent of college students affiliated with groups, organizations and teams experienced some type of hazing. In about 95 percent of the hazing incidents, students did not report their cases to the campus officials. Similar to the university level, hazing is prevalent at the K-12 level. In research studies, half of the students belonging to groups such as sports, clubs and organizations were hazed in high school. Forty two percent of fourth to eight graders were hazed through cyber bullying. The effects of hazing may impact students emotionally and physically.
The Holmes Education Post (THEP) and Einestine Technology Services (ETS) have formed a partnership to extend an invitation for the leadership and administrative team at educational institutions to review a free 9 minute pilot of our online national anti-hazing curriculum on “How to Eradiate Hazing” from the educational institution’s culture. Please click the link “Hazing Curriculum” on THEP or ETS to review the online module in the curriculum. For this online program, following are the objectives and strategies:
Objectives:
- Provide an online curriculum that can educate students on the policies, procedures and laws on anti-hazing preventions
- Provide a historical, psychological, sociological, legal and cultural perspective of the negative effects of hazing
- Provide students with alternative methods for implementing acceptable initiation rites
Strategies for the Anti-hazing Program:
- Make anti-hazing prevention information an integral part of the Student Code of Conduct, membership intake, pledge orientation
- Educate the student body on hazing and provide alternative methods of building camaraderie
- Establish a campus 24-hour anonymous hazing hotline to monitor issues with hazing on campus
- Have students read, sign and fulfill anti-hazing prevention requirements as a part of the intake process and before participating in extracurricular activities.
In December 2014, a fully developed online national anti-hazing curriculum will be available by THEP and ETS for your consideration. Using evidence based practices on hazing, the book entitled, “How to Eradicate Hazing” will serve as the reference guide for the online anti-hazing curriculum. The online curriculum can be adapted to fit any educational institution’s brand and made available in multiple platforms including OSX, Android, Windows, as well as device agnostic (tablet, phone, laptop) and have the flexibility to incorporate slides and voice simulations in English and Spanish separately.
The Holmes Education Post and Einestine Technology Services welcome the opportunity to collaborate with educational institutions and customize the fully developed 60 minute online anti-hazing curriculum for their institutions. As part of this program, we will also include a 30 minute online anti-hazing curriculum detailing how other stakeholders such as faculty members at the institution can play an integral role to eradicate hazing from the institution’s culture.
