Have you ever wondered what it would be like to homeschool your child but was clueless about how to do it? If yes, you are probably not the only person who has had the same thoughts for numerous reasons. While many reports such as “A Nation at Risk” have criticized the state of the public school system in the United States, the critical questions to be asked are: Why do parents choose homeschooling? What are parent education requirements for homeschooling a child in each state? What impact does homeschool have on the family environment? What are key instructional resources and methods for homeschooling a child? What are some success stories of children being homeschooled in the United States?

Currently, there are over 2.3 million students homeschooled in the U.S. Homeschooling is where children obtain all or most of their education at home rather than in a public or private school. While homeschooling is regulated differently in each state, the answers to the aforementioned questions can be found in Ronald Holmes’ latest book entitled “How to Homeschool Your Child: Success Stories from Moms, Dads & Students.”

This book provides real-life experiences and tips from 21 parents who have successfully homeschooled 64 children (ranging from ages 1-18) from the kindergarten to the high school level under different regulations, instructional options, and methods in the U.S. Through extensive research, this book also provides useful and resourceful information about homeschooling for parents seeking an alternative school choice for educating their children.

In this book, there were three parents who homeschooled nine children and one who homeschooled six children. The majority of the parents were married women who had no experience in homeschooling, no degrees in education, and no certification for teaching school. They were stay-at-home parents who worked from home or gained the financial support from their spouse. Additionally, the parents were very pleased about the success their children were experiencing spiritually, academically, socially, and athletically through homeschooling.
