What are the challenges of graduate students completing the Ph.D.?
Less than one percent of the U.S. population attains the Ph.D. For those who complete the degree, they add intellectual and scholarly value to their field of study. Considering a Ph.D. is one of the toughest academic challenges, the critical questions to be asked are: What are the challenges of graduate students completing the Ph.D.? How can potential and current graduate students learn from Ph.D. graduates who successfully completed the dissertation? What are some of the academic disciplines of the Ph.D. graduates? To address these questions, the following is an excerpt of The Holmes Education Post’s latest book on, “Completing the Dissertation: Tips, techniques and real-life experiences from Ph.D. graduates.”
Forty-three percent of graduate students who start a doctoral degree do not finish the Ph.D. and many students struggle to fulfill the requirements of the dissertation. The purpose of this book is to help potential and current graduate students learn from Ph.D. graduates who successfully completed the dissertation. Through interviews with 33 professionals in different academic disciplines, we culled pragmatic recommendations for students who are embarking upon this most challenging task.
The professionals represented in this book come from diverse disciplines such as the humanities, social sciences, nature sciences, formal sciences and professional and applied sciences. This book shares the real-life stories, tips, techniques and sage advice for mastering your personal life and time while embarking upon the dissertation. It is what we all wish we had known before starting the dissertation. To order the book, visit: Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.
