Who does not fail and can give us peace amid tribulations?
As believers, God does not fail and can give us peace amid tribulations. Whenever we are faced with an issue, God says, “These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). Considering the power of the Lord, our Wednesday Night Bible Study at First Timothy Baptist Church on June 5 focused on the subject, “God never fails.”
Utilizing the book, Beyond the Sunday Sermon, Dr. Ronald Holmes’ message highlighted three key points regarding this matter: (1) a teaching that is true, (2) a truth that we must face and (3) a truth that we must follow. Dr. Holmes said that a teaching that is true is recorded in John 16:33A: “These things I have spoken unto you that in me ye might have peace.” Jesus is asking, do you want peace during your tribulation? If the answer is yes, you will have peace through him. You can’t have peace in anybody except Jesus. He is the God of peace (Hebrews 13:20). He will not fail thee nor forsake thee (Deuteronomy 31:6). He will turn your sorrows into joy (John 16:20).
In point two, Dr. Holmes said that a teaching that we must face is recorded in John 16:33B: “In the world, ye shall have tribulation.” Jesus promises us his peace; so we must face the truth that there is going to be a great tribulation or suffering the world has never experienced before and will never experience again (Matthew 24:21). While God is allowing time for us to get our house in order, there is going to be a time when the end is going to come; however, no man knows but the Father. The heavenly angels and the Son of man also don’t know (Matthew 24:36). Unbelievers will be thrown into the burning furnace; and they will be weeping and grinning their teeth (Matthew 13:50). Believers will be raptured in the cloud (1 Thessalonians 4:17) when the Lord comes, said Holmes.
For point three Dr. Holmes said that a truth that we must follow is recorded in John 16:33C: “But be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” The bible reminds us in Romans 8:31, “If God be for us, who can be against us.” As believers, we must follow Jesus during our good and bad times because he is the light of the world (John 8:12). He is the way, the truth and the life (John 14:6). He is the bread of life (John 6:35). He abides in me and I in him (John 15:4). In fact, we love Jesus because he first loved us (1 John 4:19).
