As we start a new year, most of us begin to dream about our future. These dreams might involve going on a fabulous vacation, dancing with the stars or winning a game show contest. For this special feature, the critical questions to be asked are: What is the newly released book, “Jacob’s Dream?” How can teachers use this book to help children learn about careers? How does this book relate to the 16 national career clusters delineated by the U.S. Department of Education?

Jacob’s Dream is Ronald Holmes’ newest book, and it is for children ages four to eight. This book is intended to introduce children to the various career options at an early age and is based on the premise that many students don’t learn about career options until after they leave high school.

In Jacob’s Dream, students are exposed to 16 careers. This book provides colorful illustrations to capture children’s imagination while developing their reading and thinking skills. It is also a coloring book that allows them to have fun while learning. This book will be especially useful for elementary teachers as they can use the book to develop classroom lessons on careers, build student vocabulary skills and apply learning to practice.

The careers outlined in Jacob’s Dream mirror examples of the 16 national career clusters of the Department of Education. It also mirrors the careers found in The Holmes Education Post’s book on “Professional Career Paths.” To order Holmes’ newest book, “Jacob’s Dream” visit: Authorhouse.com; Amazon.com; or Barnes and Noble or call AuthorHouse Book Order Hotline at 1-888-280-7715.
